Mental health services in Cyprus have expanded significantly since GeSY launched. This guide covers what is covered by the state, private therapy costs, how to find English or Russian-speaking therapists, and online options in 2026.
GeSY mental health coverage (2026)
Since 2021, GeSY includes outpatient mental health services:
- Up to 6 sessions per year with a GeSY-registered clinical psychologist — at no out-of-pocket cost
- Referrals to a psychiatrist: covered via GP referral
- Inpatient psychiatric care at public hospitals: covered
To access: book with your GeSY GP, request a psychologist referral, then choose from the list of GeSY-registered practitioners at gesy.org.cy.
Private mental health care — costs
- Individual psychotherapy: €60–€120/session
- Psychiatric consultation: €100–€200/session
- Couples therapy: €80–€140/session
Finding an English or Russian-speaking therapist
Limassol has the largest concentration of English and Russian-speaking therapists on the island. Many are trained in the UK, USA or Israel. Finding availability can take 2–4 weeks during peak demand (September–December).
Online therapy
International platforms such as BetterHelp operate legally for Cyprus residents. Cyprus-based online sessions: €70–€100/session via video call. Many local practices shifted to offering hybrid (in-person and online) after 2021.

Cultural context
