Cyprus offers several legal pathways for non-EU nationals — from the Category F financially independent person permit to the 300,000 euro permanent residency and the digital nomad visa. Here is what is available in 2026.
Category F — Financially Independent Person
One of the most popular routes for non-EU nationals who do not plan to work locally.
- Minimum annual income from abroad: €9,568.17 (main applicant) + €4,613.22 per dependent (2026 rates, updated annually)
- Income must originate from outside Cyprus: pension, dividends, investment income or overseas rental income
- Employment in Cyprus is not permitted
- Application submitted through the CRMD
- Processing time: 1–3 months
- Permit valid for 1 year, renewed annually
Permanent Residency by Investment (MEP — Fast Track)
- Purchase property worth at least €300,000 + VAT from a licensed Cyprus developer
- Clean criminal record required
- Processing time: approximately 2 months
- Permit: indefinite, subject to maintaining the investment
- Spouse and children under 18 are included in the same application
Digital Nomad Visa
Introduced in 2022. Allows non-EU nationals who work remotely for non-Cypriot employers or clients to reside in Cyprus for up to 1 year (extendable). Requirements: proof of remote income of at least €3,500/month. Applied through the CRMD.
Work permits
Non-EU nationals can obtain work permits when sponsored by a Cyprus-registered employer. Categories A–J depending on work type. Employer must show the role could not be filled locally.
Fast Track Business Activation
Non-EU companies registering in Cyprus can obtain work permits for key staff within 1 month. Requirements: incorporated Cyprus company, investment of €200,000+, business plan submitted to the CRMD.
Family reunification
Non-EU spouses and dependent children of legal Cyprus residents can apply for a derivative residence permit through the CRMD.
