📅 ⏱ 3 min read

Cyprus offers several legal pathways for non-EU nationals — from the Category F financially independent person permit to the 300,000 euro permanent residency and the digital nomad visa. Here is what is available in 2026.

Category F — Financially Independent Person

One of the most popular routes for non-EU nationals who do not plan to work locally.

  • Minimum annual income from abroad: €9,568.17 (main applicant) + €4,613.22 per dependent (2026 rates, updated annually)
  • Income must originate from outside Cyprus: pension, dividends, investment income or overseas rental income
  • Employment in Cyprus is not permitted
  • Application submitted through the CRMD
  • Processing time: 1–3 months
  • Permit valid for 1 year, renewed annually

Permanent Residency by Investment (MEP — Fast Track)

  • Purchase property worth at least €300,000 + VAT from a licensed Cyprus developer
  • Clean criminal record required
  • Processing time: approximately 2 months
  • Permit: indefinite, subject to maintaining the investment
  • Spouse and children under 18 are included in the same application

Digital Nomad Visa

Introduced in 2022. Allows non-EU nationals who work remotely for non-Cypriot employers or clients to reside in Cyprus for up to 1 year (extendable). Requirements: proof of remote income of at least €3,500/month. Applied through the CRMD.

Work permits

Non-EU nationals can obtain work permits when sponsored by a Cyprus-registered employer. Categories A–J depending on work type. Employer must show the role could not be filled locally.

Fast Track Business Activation

Non-EU companies registering in Cyprus can obtain work permits for key staff within 1 month. Requirements: incorporated Cyprus company, investment of €200,000+, business plan submitted to the CRMD.

Family reunification

Non-EU spouses and dependent children of legal Cyprus residents can apply for a derivative residence permit through the CRMD.
